Look carefully at some bunches of seaweed. There are no stems, no roots, no

leaves and no veins. They simply consist of coloured sheets, filaments, ribbons tubes

Like all other plants , seaweeds need water and warm conditions. In common
are therefore found living with land-living green plants, they are able to absorb light

Some seaweeds need a great deal of sunlight.

They are therefore found living close to the high-tide
or even cryst-like layers that are attached to rocks by tiny suckers, holdfasts, binding
threads and the like. Seaweeds are classified into basic groups according to their
colour (green, brown, red etc) ; but this is not always as easy as it sounds.
