A protected species
Some examples of the struggle against pollution
Only when the sea becomes clean again will we be able to breathe easily. People have
now woken up to the fact that the seas must be protected . Sea reserves were created in the United States in 1943 and Japan soon followed suit. In 1963, Europe saw the establishment of a Mediterranean reserve in the shape of the National Park of Port-Cros, just offshore from Toulan (France). Other nature reserves have been set up at sites of special interest in the Mediterranean, including one in Corsica. Plans are also afoot to create a rederve in the English Channel.
